COURSE OBJECTIVE:

The RFPNW-Lookout Training course includes formal instruction in the subject areas and materials contained in 46 CFR 12.05 Section 12.05-3 (c) and STCW Table A-II-4 restricted to Lookout duties only. Upon successful completion of this course the trainees will be able to keep a proper lookout by being able to conduct proper scanning, identify and understand what he or she is hearing, seeing and smelling and properly relay this information to the bridge. In order to accomplish this, the trainees will receive instruction under the following topic areas:

  • Rules of the Road ( Inland & International )
  • Relative Bearings
  • Compass points/Cardinal Parks
  • Navigational Aids
  • Lookout Watch Standing
  • Reporting
    For admission to the course trainees must:
  • be at least 18 years old
  • be in good physical health
  • have completed the Lifeboatman/Proficiency in Survival Craft Course
  • have completed the four STCW Basic Safety training modules in accordance with Regulation VI/1 of STCW 95
  • have a good comprehension of spoken English
